The worldwide growth in renewables was "spectacular" in 2023, with an increase of 50% driven by China, says the International Energy Agency. It still needs to accelerate, however, in order to triple green energy by 2030. Tripling global renewable energy capacity by 2030 is necessary, according to the IEA, to reach the UN-agreed target of limiting global warming to 1.5 degrees celsius compared to pre-industrial times.
